Drop-Off Nature Preschool
Greater Sacramento's licensed, fully outdoor preschool for children ages 2–5.
At Play Matters, the outdoors is the classroom; not a field trip, not a break from learning, but the whole experience. Our drop-off preschool sessions are small by design (maximum 6 children), Waldorf and Reggio Emilia inspired, and built around child-led exploration, imaginative play, and genuine connection with nature. No potty training required. One flat rate for all ages.

What makes us different
We're state licensed. Play Matters holds a California childcare license (Lic # 343622083). Many outdoor and nature-based programs in the Sacramento area are not licensed. That matters.
No potty training required — ever. We welcome children where they are. Pull-ups and diapers are completely fine, and we never charge more for younger children.
Every family pays the same flat daily rate.
Truly small. Six children maximum. Not six per teacher — six total. Your child will be known here.
100% outdoors. We do have a small indoor classroom with handmade wooden toys for moments when a child needs to regulate or hear a story — but the day lives outside. Rain, mud, and dirt are part of the curriculum.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Drop-Off Preschool and Stay & Play?
Drop-Off Preschool is for children ready to separate from their caregiver. Parents drop off and pick up. Stay & Play (Fridays only) is a parent-accompanied session — you stay the whole time. Many families start with a Friday Stay & Play before enrolling in the preschool program.
Can I combine both?
Yes, enrolled preschool families are welcome to join Friday Stay & Play sessions as an add-on.
What ages are accepted?
Ages 2–5. No potty training required.
How many children are in each session?
Maximum 6. Always.
Do you have an indoor space?
We have a small covered earth classroom, a covered patio-style space with handmade wooden toys, for moments when a child needs to regulate or wants a quieter moment. The session itself is held outdoors.
